BasiGo is an early stage E-Mobility start-up working to create the future of clean, electric, and digitally-powered public transport in sub-Saharan Africa by providing bus operators with a cost effective electric alternative to diesel buses, along with reliable charging and maintenance services in support of their bus operations. BasiGo Rwanda is looking for an experienced automotive mechanic to join our Team and lead the team of mechanics and technicians that will ensure provision of high quality service, maintenance, and repair of BasiGo’s electric buses and charging stations. This position requires an experienced and innovative leader who is able to deliver exceptional service experience for our Electric Buses, ensuring the Buses are available with the highest uptime.

Our ideal candidate would have:
- Experience & Qualifications
- BSc or Diploma in Engineering or related field.
- 4+ years of experience managing service and maintenance in the automotive sector.
- Strong background in both digital electronics and high-voltage electrical systems.
- Proven experience managing warranty programs, spare parts inventories, and third-party service providers.
- Hands-on expertise in diagnosing and resolving complex automotive faults.
- Experience with electric vehicles, EV drivetrains, or charging infrastructure is a strong advantage.

Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Service Management
- Manage the electric bus service, charging, and maintenance team.
- Develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure top-quality service delivery and operational safety.
- Plan and oversee all scheduled and unscheduled maintenance for electric buses in compliance with manufacturer guidelines, statutory requirements, and company standards.
- Ensure maximum fleet uptime and vehicle availability through proactive maintenance planning and real-time issue resolution.
- Coordinate team overtime scheduling and approvals to ensure adherence to company policy and Rwandan labor laws.
Job Cards & Service Documentation
- Create, manage, and close job cards for all maintenance and repair activities, ensuring accurate documentation of work performed, parts used, and labor hours.
- Ensure all service data and maintenance activities are accurately recorded and updated in PAYD (Pay-As-You-Drive) and other digital systems.
- Maintain clear service history records for each vehicle to support warranty claims, performance analysis, and predictive maintenance planning.
Technical Oversight
- Lead the diagnosis and troubleshooting of complex electric bus systems, including powertrain, braking, suspension, steering, thermal management, and drivetrain systems.
- Manage service parts, tools, and inventory to ensure availability, cost efficiency, and traceability.
- Collaborate with OEM service and warranty teams to resolve technical issues and manage warranty claims.
- Support BasiGo’s engineering team in product design feedback, field testing, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Data Analysis & Reporting
- Collect, analyze, and report on key service performance metrics, including cost of service, man-hours, and parts usage, to identify trends and improve efficiency.
- Develop and maintain dashboards to track service KPIs such as fleet uptime, turnaround time, maintenance cost per km, and parts consumption.
- Generate and present periodic reports on electric bus performance, charging reliability, and maintenance outcomes to management.
Safety & Compliance
- Maintain a clean, safe, and efficient workshop environment in full compliance with BasiGo’s safety standards and industry regulations.
- Enforce strict adherence to electrical safety and high-voltage handling protocols.
- Foster a culture of safety, reliability and continuous improvement in E-Bus servicing
