Exowatt is revolutionizing the energy landscape for the AI era with our groundbreaking P3 system that captures solar energy, stores it as heat, and generates electricity on demand. Founded in 2023 and backed by leading investors including Andreessen Horowitz, Sam Altman, and Felicis, we're committed to providing clean, modular, and scalable power that meets the rapidly growing demands of AI infrastructure. Our mission is to make sustainable renewable energy always available and almost free, enabling technological advancement while protecting our planet.

We're hiring a Senior/Staff Product Certification Engineer to own product compliance and safety across our hardware portfolio. You'll be the primary bridge between our engineering teams and the global safety agencies (UL, Intertek, CSA) that gate our path to market — ensuring our energy storage systems, power electronics, and supporting technologies meet the highest safety and performance standards before they're deployed at customer sites.

This is a high-leverage role. The pace of certification work directly determines how fast we can deliver power to customers, and how confidently we can deploy at scale.

This role is based in our Austin, TX facility. Relocation is required, and relocation assistance will be provided if necessary.

What You'll Do

Own the certification roadmap. Develop and execute compliance strategies for new product introductions and design iterations across the portfolio.

Run the NRTL relationship. Serve as the primary point of contact for UL, Intertek, and CSA — managing project quotes, testing schedules, and technical file submissions.

Build the technical record. Prepare, review, and maintain comprehensive Construction Files, including schematics, BOMs, and critical component lists.

Manage testing end-to-end. Oversee and witness on-site and laboratory testing. Troubleshoot non-conformances and partner with R&D to engineer solutions that meet safety requirements without compromising performance.

Stay ahead of the standards. Track evolving codes (NEC, NFPA 855) and ensure our internal design guidelines reflect the latest versions of applicable industry standards.

Hands-on, deep familiarity with:

Required Qualifications

Education: B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.

Experience: 10+ years in product compliance within power electronics, battery, or solar industries.

NRTL track record: Proven success bringing products through certification with UL, CSA, or Intertek.

Codes knowledge: Strong working understanding of the NEC and NFPA 855.

Analytical depth: Ability to interpret complex technical standards and apply them to hardware designs early — when changes are still cheap.

Bonus Points

Experience with IEC 62619 or IEC 62109 for international market entry.

Functional Safety background (ISO 26262 or IEC 61508).

Familiarity with European equivalents to the standards above.

A detective's mindset — the kind of engineer who enjoys digging into a circuit board to find out exactly why a component failed a dielectric test.
