Mantel is a Series A startup backed by leading climate-tech venture capital firms. Mantel is developing the material solution to carbon capture. We have developed the only liquid phase carbon capture material that operates at high temperatures. Our molten borates enable new process designs that can increase thermal efficiency and reduce the cost of carbon capture and storage by more than 50%. Mantel’s solution will help to reduce CO2 emissions across a range of industrial sources including the generation of electricity with net negative emissions.

Mantel is looking for a Process Engineer excited to join a promising carbon capture startup working on the development of molten salts as a novel CO2 sorbent material. The Process Engineer will work with Mantel’s engineers and partner EPCs to design, build, commission, and operate Mantel’s first-of-a-kind demonstration system. This position will center around process modeling including development and validation of process and system operation models to support demonstration plant scale-up and transition to commercial systems. The role includes support of techno-economic analysis and equipment sizing/costing, and identification of data gaps and validation testing needs. The Process Engineer will also work with Mantel’s senior design engineers to perform process analysis/calculation/modeling, equipment specification including component sizing and data sheet review, create and optimize startup/shutdown procedures, and cross-discipline coordination with Mantel R&D team. Mantel is looking for a well-organized, versatile technical problem solver who can think outside the box and communicate effectively in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in engineering (Chemical preferred, open to others)
Experience in industrial boiler/plant design, operation, and maintenance
Required: field experience in industrial boiler/plant commissioning
Strong background in safe plant operation, industrial safety, and process hazard analysis
Thorough understanding of engineering drawings, P&IDs, equipment specifications, and engineering commissioning/operating procedures
Desired Qualifications:
Experience with molten salt/metals or carbon capture systems
Experience working with external EPCs
Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience in an industrial setting.
Location: Remote/Hybrid or In-person (Cambridge, MA). Up to 25% travel required.
