About Red Metals
Red Metals is rethinking the domestic copper supply chain at a pivotal moment in American industry.
Copper underpins electrification, data centers, and defense systems. U.S. demand already exceeds domestic supply, and the gap is widening as grid modernization, the energy transition, and buildout of AI infrastructure accelerate.
We are building a new model for this critical industrial layer in the United States.
The Role
We are hiring a Software Developer to build the software layer that powers our copper processing and refining systems.
You will write code that directly interacts with physical equipment, sensors, and control systems, and that determines how material moves through the plant. Your work will intersect real-time systems, data, and machine intelligence.
What You’ll Do
Build software that interfaces with sensors, PLCs, and control systems to adjust real-time plant operation
Develop and deploy edge AI/ML systems that operate on high-frequency sensor data to drive real-time decision-making and system optimization
Design and implement data pipelines for high-frequency process and equipment data
Build internal tools for monitoring, control, debugging, and operator decision-making
Work closely with controls, mechanical, and process engineers to integrate software into physical systems
Implement feedback loops that connect downstream quality and assay data to upstream process decisions
Develop and deploy algorithms that improve yield, quality, and throughput over time
Own production systems end to end, including reliability, performance, and observability
Rapidly prototype, test, and iterate in a live industrial environment with noisy, imperfect conditions
Contribute to system architecture across edge, on-site, and cloud infrastructure
Build backend systems and, where needed, customer-facing tools that extend plant data into commercial workflows and external applications
Red Metals Non-Negotiables
Bias for Action
We move fast. Speed beats polish. We use every tool, especially AI, to accelerate decisions, execution, and learning.
Grit
We do hard things because they matter. We keep pushing when others quit.
Ownership
We own outcomes, not tasks. We see problems, fix them, and follow through across functions.
Signal
We cut through noise. We communicate clearly and directly so decisions are fast and execution stays sharp.
Craft
We take pride in our work. Quality, care, and precision are the standard.
What We’re Looking For
Strong software engineering fundamentals and ability to build production systems end-to-end
Experience writing code that interacts with real-world systems, not just web applications
Proficiency in Python or similar languages used for data, control, and systems development
Experience working with data pipelines, streaming data, or real-time systems
Active use of AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code, Copilot, similar) to write, debug, and iterate on production code
Ability to leverage AI tools to accelerate development speed and solve complex technical problems
Comfortable operating in environments with incomplete data and ambiguous requirements
Ability to move quickly, debug issues in the field, and iterate on live systems
Strong ownership mindset. You care about system performance, not just code quality
Strong Pluses:
Experience building or working with complex, real-world systems that integrate hardware, data, and software
Experience interfacing with PLCs, OPC-UA, Modbus, or similar industrial protocols
Experience applying machine learning to physical systems
Experience with edge computing or deploying models outside of pure cloud environments
Experience building internal tools for operators or industrial workflows
Background in robotics, manufacturing, or other hardware-adjacent environments
Startup or early-stage experience
Why Red Metals
Build a company from zero, not optimize an existing system
Direct ownership of critical process and operational decisions
Work on a problem that matters: rebuilding U.S. industrial capacity
Small team, high trust, no bureaucracy
Location
This role is based in South Carolina and requires on-site work.
