About Solugen:

Mission

Solugen’s mission is to decarbonize chemicals manufacturing. As a first step, Solugen is building a 10,000 tpy first commercial plant with the potential to offset up to 37,000 tpy of carbon dioxide equivalents. This role will directly support Solugen’s mission by ensuring Solugen’s manufacturing and R&D assets are achieving high levels of output and utilization via automated controls systems. Ultimately, this includes spearheading the implementation of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning-enabled process controls systems with the help of Solugen’s commercial partners. Reporting to the Plant Manager, this is a hands-on role where the individual’s initiative, engineering prowess, and energy level will make a substantial impact on the company’s mission. Additionally, this individual will serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Control Systems/Electrical & Instrumentation for Solugen. This individual will oversee the development of control systems for projects as well as the improvement of the current control systems. This individual will also be responsible for the production engineering role while overseeing rate, quality, and process production opportunities. As the company grows and the individual progresses, the ideal candidate for this position can move up and laterally to different areas within the company including commercial plant operations, project engineering, process optimization, and technical business development.

The Site Safety Specialist is responsible for leading and overseeing site-level safety programs to promote a proactive safety culture and ensure a safe working environment. This role drives risk mitigation strategies, injury prevention initiatives, and continuous improvement of safety performance across operations.

The position partners with site leadership to support operational excellence in safety and workforce protection.

Key Responsibilities

Site Safety Management

• Lead site safety strategy to prevent injuries, illnesses, environmental releases, and property damage.

• Develop and implement Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), risk assessments, and mitigation controls.

• Oversee incident investigations and root cause analysis, ensuring regulatory reporting requirements are met.

• Ensure proper classification and recordability determinations for OSHA reporting.

• Drive safety engagement initiatives including safety meetings, toolbox talks, and behavior-based safety programs.

• Ensure contractor safety compliance and qualification standards.

• Support operational leadership in integrating safety into daily production activities.

• Manage emergency response planning, drills, and post-incident regulatory notifications.

• Track and report safety KPIs (TRIR, DART, near misses, leading indicators).

• Maintain and administer the site Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP).

Program Development & Continuous Improvement

• Establish measurable safety and compliance objectives aligned with business goals.

• Develop systems to improve safety data integrity and performance tracking.

• Utilize data analytics to identify trends and implement corrective actions.

• Promote continuous improvement through audits, inspections, and leadership observations.

• Support risk reduction and operational improvement initiatives.

Training & Workforce Development

• Deliver safety training programs via LMS Systems

• Ensure employees are trained and competent in safe work practices.

• Train leadership on safety expectations, hazard recognition, and incident prevention.

• Maintain training records and compliance documentation to withstand audit scrutiny.

Qualifications

• Strong leadership, communication, analytical, and documentation skills.

• 1–2 years of safety experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment.

• Experience with incident investigations, hazard assessments, and safety program implementation.

• Professional certifications preferred (e.g., ASP, CSP, CIH).

• Experience in manufacturing, energy, construction, petrochemical, or industrial environments preferred.
