The Production Planner is responsible for developing and maintaining production plans to support operational efficiency, on-time delivery, and alignment with customer demand and business objectives. This role translates customer orders and contracts, production capacity, and material availability into executable production plans, ensuring schedules are followed and adjusted as needed. This position supports improvements in production efficiency, inventory management, and cross-functional alignment across the organization.
The Production Planner works closely with cross-functional teams including operations, supply chain & procurement, engineering, finance, and customer stakeholders to translate customer orders and forecasts into actionable production schedules. This role requires strong analytical, organizational, and systems expertise, particularly within ERP/MRP environments, to balance capacity, inventory, and delivery commitments in a dynamic manufacturing setting.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Production Planning and Scheduling
- Develop, maintain, and optimize production schedules based on customer demand, forecast inputs, material availability, and production capacity
- Translate sales orders and forecasts into executable work orders within ERP/MRP systems
- Monitor production progress and adjust schedules to address constraints, delays, or changing priorities
- Coordinate with operations to ensure alignment between planned and actual production activities
- Communicate production schedule status, order progress, and potential risks or delays to internal stakeholders, and support coordination with external stakeholders as needed.
ERP/MRP System Management
- Utilize ERP/MRP systems (e.g., NetSuite, SAP) to manage work orders, track inventory levels, and maintain accurate production data
- Ensure data integrity within planning systems, including bills of materials (BOMs), routings, and lead times
- Support system improvements and enhancements to increase planning efficiency and visibility.
Cross-Functional Coordination
- Collaborate with procurement to ensure timely availability of materials required for production
- Interface with engineering and quality teams to incorporate design changes, process updates, and compliance requirements into production plans
- Communicate production schedules, risks, and changes to stakeholders across the organizationPerformance Monitoring and Continuous Improvement
- Track key performance indicators (KPIs) such as on-time delivery, schedule adherence, inventory levels, and capacity utilization
- Analyze production data to identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to planning processes, system utilization, and operational performance
Operational Improvement
- Assist in capacity planning, scenario analysis, and long-range production planning efforts
- Support audits, reporting, and documentation requirements related to production and inventory management
- Ensure compliance with company policies, safety standards, and applicable regulatory requirements
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field; equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered
- Experience in production planning, scheduling, supply chain, or manufacturing operations within an industrial or manufacturing environment
- Demonstrated experience working with ERP/MRP systems (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, Oracle) for order management, production scheduling, and inventory control
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, identify constraints, and develop actionable production plans
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel (advanced functions, data analysis, and reporting)
- Ability to communicate effectively across cross-functional teams and support decision-making through data-driven insights
- Experience with data analysis and visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) is preferred
- Familiarity with production scheduling, capacity planning, inventory management, and continuous improvement methodologies is preferred
