About the role:

The Nuclear Company is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Associate Licensing Engineer to join our Regulatory team in Columbia, South Carolina. This role will be responsible for assisting in the development, implementation, and maintenance of licensing strategies and documents to ensure compliance with all applicable nuclear regulatory requirements.

The Associate Licensing Engineer will be an integral part of the team, learning about the complex regulatory landscape of the nuclear energy industry. Reporting to the Director of Licensing, this position will involve supporting senior team members with interpreting regulations, preparing licensing submittals, and ensuring the company's activities are conducted in accordance with all applicable licenses, permits, and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Licensing Document Support:
    • Provide assistance in the preparation and organization of licensing documents, including license applications, amendments, technical specifications, safety analysis reports, environmental reports, and other regulatory submittals.
    • Help with basic reviews to ensure the accuracy and completeness of licensing documents.
    • Begin to learn and understand current licensing bases and regulatory commitments.
  • Regulatory Familiarization & Support:
    • Assist in researching and summarizing federal, state, and local regulations related to nuclear energy.
    • Support the team in understanding the impact of new and revised regulations on the company's operations.
    • Help compile information for internal stakeholders on regulatory requirements.
  • Regulatory Agency Interaction Support:
    • Support the preparation of basic responses to regulatory inquiries and requests for information.
    • Attend meetings and teleconferences with regulatory agencies (e.g., NRC) as an observer or to take notes.
    • Assist with administrative tasks related to regulatory inspections and audits.
  • Compliance Assurance Assistance:
    • Support the maintenance of records related to regulatory compliance.
    • Assist in tracking regulatory commitments and action items.
  • Technical Information Support:
    • Assist in gathering and organizing technical information for licensing-related matters.
    • Support the team in reviewing minor design changes or operational procedures for consistency with basic licensing principles.
  • Learning & Development:
    • Actively participate in training related to licensing requirements and nuclear regulations.
    • Develop an understanding of regulatory awareness and compliance within the organization.

Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Nuclear, Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, etc.) or a related scientific discipline.
  • 2+ years of experience.
  • Demonstrated interest in the nuclear energy industry and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving aptitude.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy.
  • Ability to learn and apply new information quickly.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Estimated Starting Salary Range:

The estimated starting salary range for this role is $98,000 - $118,000 annually less applicable withholdings and deductions, paid on a semi-monthly basis. The actual salary offered may vary based on relevant factors as determined in the Company’s discretion, which may include experience, qualifications, tenure, skill set, availability of qualified candidates, geographic location, certifications held, and other criteria deemed pertinent to the particular role.
