About the role:

The Nuclear Company is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented ITAAC Engineer to join our Regulatory team in Columbia, South Carolina. This role will be responsible for supporting the verification and closure of Inspections, Tests, Analyses, and Acceptance Criteria (ITAAC) to ensure that nuclear facility construction and modifications comply with all applicable regulatory requirements and design specifications.

The ITAAC Engineer will play a key role in ensuring the successful transition of new or modified nuclear facilities from construction to operation. This position will involve interpreting ITAAC requirements, collecting and organizing evidence, preparing ITAAC closure documentation, and interacting with regulatory agencies to demonstrate compliance with the Combined Operating License (COL).

Responsibilities:

  • ITAAC Verification & Documentation:
    • Interpret and understand specific ITAAC requirements as defined in the Combined Operating License (COL) and associated design documents.
    • Gather, review, and organize objective evidence (e.g., test reports, inspection records, analysis reports, design documents, construction specifications) to demonstrate completion of ITAAC.
    • Prepare and support the development of ITAAC Closure Notifications (ICNs) and other related documentation for submission to the NRC.
    • Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and technical adequacy of all ITAAC verification packages.
  • Regulatory Interpretation & Application:
    • Interpret and apply federal regulations, regulatory guides, and industry standards related to ITAAC and nuclear facility commissioning.
    • Assess the impact of design changes, construction deviations, or test results on the fulfillment of ITAAC.
    • Provide guidance to internal stakeholders on ITAAC requirements and verification processes.
  • Regulatory Agency Interaction Support:
    • Support the preparation of responses to NRC inquiries and requests for additional information related to ITAAC closure.
    • Participate in meetings and teleconferences with regulatory agencies (e.g., NRC) during ITAAC audits and inspections.
    • Assist with regulatory inspections focused on ITAAC verification.
  • Compliance Assurance & Tracking:
    • Support the implementation of processes and procedures to ensure robust ITAAC verification and compliance.
    • Assist in tracking and managing the status of open ITAAC and associated action items.
    • Contribute to internal audits and assessments related to ITAAC and commissioning readiness.
  • Technical Integration & Support:
    • Collaborate closely with engineering, construction, quality assurance, and operations teams to understand technical aspects relevant to ITAAC completion.
    • Provide technical support in reviewing test plans, inspection procedures, and analyses to ensure they adequately address ITAAC acceptance criteria.
    • Participate in problem resolution processes for ITAAC-related discrepancies.

Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Nuclear, Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, Civil, etc.) or a related scientific discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in engineering, quality assurance, construction oversight, or a related technical field within the nuclear energy industry.
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of the ITAAC process as defined in NRC regulations (e.g., 10 CFR Part 52) and associated guidance documents.
  • Familiarity with nuclear power plant design, construction, testing, and commissioning processes.
  • Experience with integrated project schedules and tracking tools for large construction projects.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to connect design intent to physical realization.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to compile complex technical information into clear, concise regulatory submittals.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong focus on accuracy and completeness, especially when reviewing objective evidence.
  • Ability to interpret and apply regulations, design specifications, and technical standards.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with document management systems.

Estimated Starting Salary Range:

The estimated starting salary range for this role is $150,000 - $170,000 annually less applicable withholdings and deductions, paid on a semi-monthly basis. The actual salary offered may vary based on relevant factors as determined in the Company’s discretion, which may include experience, qualifications, tenure, skill set, availability of qualified candidates, geographic location, certifications held, and other criteria deemed pertinent to the particular role.
