About the role:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Fire Protection Lead to oversee the development, implementation, and maintenance of fire protection systems across our nuclear facilities. This role ensures compliance with all applicable nuclear safety regulations, industry codes, and internal standards to safeguard personnel, infrastructure, and the environment.
Responsibilities:
- Lead fire protection engineering efforts across nuclear projects and facilities.
- Primary interface with the NEIL (Nuclear Electric Insurance Limited) Insurance primary point of contact in support of audits, inspections, and any property damage assessments/issues.
- Develop and review fire protection system designs, specifications, and calculations.
- Ensure compliance with NRC regulations (e.g., 10 CFR 50.48, NFPA 804), DOE Orders, and NFPA codes.
- Conduct and oversee fire hazard analyses (FHA), fire modeling, and risk assessments.
- Prepare and review licensing documentation, including FSAR updates and fire protection program plans.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for fire protection issues with regulatory agencies and internal stakeholders.
- Provide technical leadership during design, construction, commissioning, and operational phases.
- Mentor junior engineers and support training initiatives related to fire safety.
Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 10 years of fire protection engineering experience, with at least 5 years in the nuclear industry.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Fire Protection preferred.
- Strong knowledge of NRC regulations, NFPA codes (especially NFPA 804, 101, 13, 72), and DOE standards.
- Proficiency in fire modeling tools (e.g., CFAST, FDS) and risk-informed performance-based design.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and project management skills.
- Experience with probabilistic risk assessment (PRA) and fire PRA preferred.
- Familiarity with international nuclear safety standards (e.g., IAEA).
- Active involvement in professional organizations such as SFPE, ANS, or ASME is preferred

Estimated Starting Salary Range:
The estimated starting salary range for this role is $179,000 - $203,000 annually less applicable withholdings and deductions, paid on a semi-monthly basis. The actual salary offered may vary based on relevant factors as determined in the Company’s discretion, which may include experience, qualifications, tenure, skill set, availability of qualified candidates, geographic location, certifications held, and other criteria deemed pertinent to the particular role.
