About the role
The Traveling I&E Technician (Journeyman Electrician) performs diagnostics, maintenance, testing, and repair of electrical systems at nuclear power plant facilities nationwide. This role supports outage and maintenance work in highly regulated environments, ensuring electrical systems are installed, maintained, and restored in accordance with strict nuclear safety, quality, and regulatory standards. Technicians will work closely with plant maintenance teams while adhering to work packages, clearance boundaries, and procedural requirements to support safe and reliable plant operations.
PROJECT-BASED TRAVEL ROLE: This position is not based in Columbia, SC. We are collecting applications for professionals willing to travel to nuclear power plant sites nationwide as outage and project work becomes available. Work will take place at nuclear facilities across the United States as projects are awarded, and roles will be activated as project staffing needs are confirmed.
Responsibilities
- Travel to nuclear power plant sites nationwide to support scheduled outages, maintenance, and project work
- Perform electrical diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repair of plant electrical systems and components
- Conduct preventative maintenance, inspection, and testing on plant electrical equipment
- Execute work in accordance with plant work packages, clearance boundaries, and nuclear procedures
- Ensure compliance with applicable electrical codes, nuclear safety standards, and site safety requirements
- Collaborate with plant operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to support safe and reliable plant operations
- Support extended outage schedules and critical path work while maintaining strict adherence to safety and quality standards
Experience / Required Qualifications
- Experience working as a nuclear electrician or instrumentation & controls (I&C) technician in power generation or heavy industrial environments
- Strong electrical troubleshooting and maintenance skills supporting plant electrical systems and equipment
- Ability to obtain and maintain nuclear plant access and meet site security requirements
- Ability and willingness to travel full-time to plant sites nationwide during outage and project cycles
- Ability to pass required background screening, drug testing, and comply with PPE and site-specific safety training requirements (including Powersafe)
Preferred Experience
- Hands-on experience performing maintenance or electrical work on Reactor Coolant Pump (RCP) motors
- Prior nuclear certifications or previous access at commercial nuclear power plant sites
Please Note:
This role is specific to nuclear steam turbine-generator outage work and is not a general maintenance or plant operations position. Applicants must have direct turbine overhaul experience in outage environments.
