About the role

As the EHS Manager and designated Radiation Safety Officer (RSO), you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing the Environmental, Health, and Safety programs across all phases of the company—from research and development through reactor system manufacture and commercialization. This includes ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., NRC, DOE, EPA, OSHA), developing robust safety and radiation protection processes, and fostering a strong culture of safety across the organization.

What you'll do

  • Serve as the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO), responsible for implementation and oversight of the radiation protection program in accordance with 10 CFR 20 and applicable NRC license requirements.
  • Design and implement a comprehensive EHS program tailored for nuclear technology development and operations that complies with industry regulations (e.g., 10 CFR Parts 20, 30, 50, 70, 73).
  • Develop and maintain radiation safety training, dosimetry programs, and incident response plans.
  • Lead the development of safety policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and emergency response protocols for the reactor factory.
  • Establish performance metrics and drive continuous improvement in safety and radiation protection.
  • Oversee hazardous, radiological, and non-hazardous waste management programs.
  • Coordinate with regulators and licensing teams on radiological safety requirements and inspections.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Health Physics, Industrial Hygiene, or related field.
  • 10+ years of EHS experience in highly regulated industries (e.g., nuclear, aerospace, defense, chemical, or energy).
  • Meets NRC criteria for Radiation Safety Officer per 10 CFR 30.33 and/or 35.50 (e.g., documented radiation safety training and supervised experience).
  • Working knowledge of NRC processes, including radiation protection, incident response, and the allegation program.
  • Strong knowledge of NRC, OSHA, and EPA regulations, environmental permitting, and nuclear quality assurance (e.g., NQA-1).
  • Demonstrated leadership in building or scaling EHS or radiation safety programs in early-stage or complex organizations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred

  • Master’s degree or certifications such as CIH, CSP, or board certification in health physics (e.g., CHP).
  • Experience at NRC- or DOE-licensed facilities.
  • Familiarity with radiological controls, ALARA programs, or safety system design reviews.
  • Knowledge of safety case development or PRA (Probabilistic Risk Assessment).

Work Authorization

Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. without the need for visa sponsorship now or in the future.
