Descripción completa del empleo
Role: Assistant General Manager
Location: 3110 N. Going Street, Portland, OR
We founded FACE PLANT to bend the arc of history and change the trajectory of global warming by building the most loved fast-food brand worldwide through our plant-based menu and the magical experience we create for our employees and customers. As a team, we can only bring this vision to life with the right leaders on board.
We’ve been open since March 2025 - and are incredibly proud of what we have achieved so far: almost 1100 reviews on Google Maps at 4.8 stars, named a top new burger spot by Food & Wine magazine, as well as Yelp’s best Portland area burger spot, growing sales and an incredibly kind and generous team.
As Assistant General Manager of our flagship restaurant, you’ll be strategic partner to our General Manager and a key leader in shaping the culture and operations of our flagship restaurant. You’ll own shifts end-to-end, coach and grow our crew, and step in as the senior leader on the floor when the GM is off. In addition, you will be a key contributor in scheduling, inventory management, and food and labor costs. This is a high-ownership role with a clear path to running your own store as we scale Face Plant.
Here’s where you’ll drive:
- Run shifts as the senior leader on the floor – owning execution, hospitality, and the energy of the team from open to close.
- Coach and develop crew members in the moment, building the confidence and skills that turn good hospitality into the magical experience our customers remember.
- Partner with the GM on onboarding and training – ensuring every new team member is set up to win from day one. Lead creation of training material when gaps are identified.
- Drive scheduling, labor management, and shift coverage – balancing crew preferences with the operational needs of a fast-paced restaurant.
- Comfort with needing to occasionally slide your schedule around call-outs and/or business spikes
- Lead in inventory management and tracking food waste and costs [WY: I’m fine to remove this]
- Manage cash handling and shift-level financial accuracy.
- Lead food safety, cleanliness, and health-code compliance on every shift you run
- Resolve guest issues with care and creativity, turning hard moments into moments of connection.
- Help refine the playbook – your observations from the floor will shape SOPs, training materials, and how we operate as we grow beyond our flagship.
- Step in for the GM when needed, owning the store as if it were your own.
About You! In addition to experience across the above responsibilities, qualifications for this role include:
- Prior experience leading shifts or teams in a restaurant, retail, or hospitality environment – QSR or drive-thru experience is a strong plus.
- A genuine love of hospitality and people – you create connections naturally, and you teach others to do the same.
- Comfort with ambiguity and a roll-up-your-sleeves mindset – we are building something new, and the playbook is not fully written.
- Strong attention to detail and a bias toward action.
- A growth and curiosity mindset – you are hungry to learn, take feedback, and grow into a GM role over time.
- Oregon Food Handler’s Card (required prior to first shift; we will help you get one if you don’t already have it).
- Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays - a bias to enjoying evening and closing shifts is a plus
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Benefits:
- Competitive salary: $50K to $70K (depending on experience)
- Performance bonus potential
- Paid Time Off and Sick Time
- Free meals on the clock and 50% off meals off the clock
- Medical, Vision, Dental insurance coverage after 60 days
- A clear development path to General Manager as we scale
Maxims:
At Face Plant, we ground our actions in the below maxims that the founding team created in the early days of our brand. They may evolve and we would love to have you on that journey.
- Character is the start of everything. Our purpose can only be achieved through the make-up of our character as individuals and as a team. Remember Mr. Rogers! Begin always from a place of kindness, guided by empathy to assume best intentions. We must be an organization with a strong work ethic that we can be proud of, where our first instinct is to lend a helping hand to support each other. This bedrock of kindness, earnest effort, and support for each other is how we build the trust and togetherness needed in order to thrive as a team.
- We will find a way. In building something new, we will face countless brick walls in our path. Each represents an initial failure – and failure is often the only way forward for us. We must be water against the brick and find a way through grit and ingenuity, and at times a different path entirely. Hard does not mean we are wrong. Hard means we are the first, and we can draw energy and pride from the hard.
- Our first customers are our employees. The only way we deliver a magical experience for the customers we serve, is if we deliver on that same promise for our team. In doing so, we can become the best service place to work in the world.
- The answer is the connection we can create. Only through forging a deeper relationship than ever before with our customers – through caring, generosity, and joy – will we bend the arc. Connection not commerce. Community not commerce. And know that the value of any decision which prioritizes that customer relationship will drive far greater value than the few dollars or cents it may cost us in the moment.
- Focus on the few. What are the one or two things we must be exceptional at? Let’s do those and nothing else. Focus unlocks the otherwise impossible – to make something incredible, and to do it with great urgency and quality.
